Finding a Reputable Dog Breeder

Looking for a purebred dog is a big task. Finding a reputable dog breeder is the first step in finding that perfect dog to fit with you and your family. There are hundreds of dishonest dog breeders out there that are willing to sell dogs for less money and ones that will have health problems and difficult temperaments that don't fit with your lifestyle. That's why it's imperative that you find a reputable dog breeder. Keep reading if you need some help in the process.

Where to start?

A starting point is always the hardest part about finding a reputable breeder. Here are some suggestions to get you off on the right foot:

· Talk with local veterinarians, groomers, and friends. Begin your search for a good dog breeder by asking around the neighborhood and finding some names that you can check into.

· Search out local breeding clubs. There are several different people in local breeding clubs that can point you in the right direction in finding a reputable dog breeder.

· Search the American Kennel Club. If you have access to the Internet then you can check out the web site for the American Kennel Club. It will give you information on different types of dogs and where you might be able to find them.

What a reputable dog breeder will offer you

It is a lot of work finding a truly reputable dog breeder; not because they're all in secret places, but because there are so many dishonest breeders out there that will sell you just about anything with four legs that walks. Finding a trustworthy breeder is important and here's what they can offer you:

· Health screenings. If you find a reputable bog breeder they will be able to tell you what kind of health problems to look for and will have done all in their power to keep the dogs they have healthy. A reputable breeder will screen for any health problems and provide records and certificates showing that your dog is healthy. They will also have taken the dogs for regular veterinary visits.

· A reputable dog breeder will maintain a clean facility. One thing you might notice in reputable breeders and dishonest ones is how they keep their facility. Reputable dog breeders want potential buyers to come back and will keep their facilities clean.

· You will almost always get a healthy dog when you get one from a reputable dog breeder. They take care of their dogs not just because it will bring in more business, but because they love them and want them to be healthy.

What a reputable dog breeder is looking for in an owner

A good dog breeder will ask a variety of different questions to make sure that you are a right fit for the dog you want to get. Some of those things include:

· Facilitating a long lasting relationship with the dog of your choice. A reputable dog breeder will want to make sure that you treat your dog responsibly and take care of them so they live a full life.

· They will ask you about your own home and lifestyle to ensure that the dog of your choice is a good fit. If your choice isn't a good fit then they will be able to point out some other breeds that will fit better with lifestyle. Some things that may affect that are children, grandparents, time away from home, or other pets.

· They should also ask what sorts of temperaments you are looking for. Every family has a different temperament in mind and it's important to match your family temperament with the right dog temperament.

Finding a reputable dog breeder takes a lot of time and effort on your part, but in the end you will be much happier because your dog fits with every aspect of your lifestyle. And your dog will also be much happier.
