Flea And Tick-Proof Your Dog

If you have a dog that spends a lot of time outdoors, you probably are concerned about your dog getting fleas and ticks. Ticks and fleas are little bugs that irritate the dog's skin, making him scratch or get sores. Sometimes a dog can scratch his fleas so much that it can alter the appearance of the dog and pull out patches of fur! Not only can ticks and fleas be irritating for your dog, they also can be a nuisance for you too – especially if you get fleas in your own things! There are a couple of ways that you can keep your dog tick and flea free. Here are some ways that you can have your dog avoid getting ticks and fleas:

Avoid areas where ticks are present: If you live near wooded areas where there are lots of ticks, do not let your dog go into these areas. Take your dog on walks in other areas where he would not be likely to get ticks. In addition, you should not let your dog roam free in areas where there could be ticks. If your house is located in an area where there are a lot of ticks, you should keep your dog confined to your own lawn or even keep it inside the house.

Do not let your dog around other dogs with fleas: Another way to keep your dog flea free is to make sure that it doesn't play with other dogs that have fleas! Once again, you should not let your dog wander around your neighborhood or area without supervision. It could meet other dogs that have fleas, and then you'd have a flea problem on your hands! Always make sure that you know where your dog is by confining or restricting it to a safe area.

Buy a flea and tick collar: There are flea and tick collars that are available at pet stores for a relatively low price – around $10 to $15 dollars. These collars can be placed on your dog without bothering your pet at all. Tick and flea collars are probably the most popular way that people keep ticks and fleas away from their dogs. Of course, these collars are often used for dogs that already have gotten ticks and fleas, but you can also have your dog wear these collars to prevent them from getting ticks and fleas as well!

Get a special tick and flea shampoo: Another great way to keep your dog tick and flea free is to wash them with a tick and flea shampoo! You can find these special shampoos located at your local pet store. Again, these shampoos are generally used for dogs that have already gotten fleas and ticks, but you can use the shampoo to keep ticks and fleas away as well! However, it is probably a good idea to not use this shampoo consistently if your dog doesn't actually have ticks and fleas. If your dog doesn't have ticks and fleas, then you should probably rotate using this shampoo with a regular dog shampoo.

So, if you are concerned about your dog getting ticks or fleas, or perhaps if they already have ticks and fleas – never fear! As you can see, there are many things that you can do to keep your dog tick and flea free. And if your dog has already gotten ticks and fleas, try a collar or a special tick and flea shampoo. Most people have been able to get rid of their dog's ticks and fleas by using one of those products. Enjoy your tick and flea free dog!
