Good Dog! How To Train Your Canine Friend

Do you want to train your dog to do simple tricks and obey you? If you have a really unruly dog, you probably will want to take them to a dog trainer or behaviorist. However, there are a lot of things that you can do to train your dog on your own! Here are a couple of things that you can do:

House training:

Are you having problems getting your dog to go to do his business outside? There are a couple of things that you can do to help your dog to realize that this is wrong. One of these things is to take your dog over to its "accident and make it smell the accident. Then, in a stern voice, tell the dog that this is not right. When your dog goes outside instead to urinate or defecate, then you should reward the dog with a lot of pats, and maybe even a treat! Another thing that you can do to house train your dog is to use "training pads. These pads can be bought at your local pet store. You should have your dog urinate only on these pads, and slowly move these pads towards your door. Eventually, you can place these pads outside the door, and your dog will pick up the habit of going outside to "go to the bathroom. Your dog will soon be able to realize what he or she should do if you follow these training steps!

Heel:

Teaching your dog to heel can be one of the hardest things that your dog will ever learn. One of the ways that you can teach a dog how to heel is with the help of a choke chain. These chains are designed to go around the neck of the dog, and they can be very comfortable – if the dog is staying by your side. However, if the dog begins to pull ahead of you, the chain will begin to tighten and become uncomfortable. In order to be comfortable again, the dog will realize that he needs to slow down. These choke chains are not harmful to the dogs, but are a great way to teach them to stand by you. Sometimes when you are starting to train a dog to heel, you will need to jerk back on the choke chain slightly, so that the dog will realize that he is not supposed to pull ahead of you.

Sit:

If you want to teach your dog how to sit, you should stand about a foot in front of it. With one finger, you should point to the dog's rump and loudly say, "SIT. Then, take your hands and gently place your dog in the sitting position, repeating the word "SIT' every couple of seconds. When the dog is finally in sitting position, give the dog a lot of pats and verbal praise. In addition, you should give the dog a small treat. By repeating this whole procedure often, your dog will soon learn to sit on its own!

Lie down:

It is easiest to teach your dog how to lie down after you have already taught it how to sit. First of all, you should have your dog be sitting down. Then, hold your palm down and push it do the floor while saying "Lay down or "Down in a commanding voice. Then, gently pull on your dog's front paws until the dog is lying down, repeating the words, "Down to it. Give your dog a treat and praise when it is lying down all the way. Keep on repeating these steps until your dog can lie down on at your command.
