Gourmet Dog Treat Meals

Some people love to spoil their dogs rotten. Making homemade dog treats is just one way you can spoil your dog. You can even take this one step further and make a dog treat meal. Here are a couple dog treat meals you can try making:

Sunday's Crock pot Lamb and Rice

Ingredients:

1 pound ground lamb
4 cloves garlic
5 C. of boiling water
1 ½ C. brown rice
2 stalks broccoli, cut into large pieces
2 medium potatoes, cubed
3 medium carrots cut into pieces

Brown the lamb, potatoes and garlic in a frying pan. Place the rice, broccoli and carrots in the crock pot. Add the lamb, potatoes and garlic. Cover with boiling water. Allow it to cook overnight, serve this gourmet meal to your dog the following day.

Big Boy Stew

Ingredients:

5 pounds beef chunks or ground beef
1 T. olive oil
3 quarts chicken broth
4  C. water
4 bouillon cubes (chicken or beef)
3 pounds of raw veggies (you choice)
3 pounds brown rice

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef in olive oil. Place beef in 16 quart stew pot. Add water, broth, bouillon cubes, and vegetable. Bring the entire mixture to a boil. Stir in the rice and cover, reduce heat to low and allow it to simmer for one hour. Remove from heat and allow stew to cool. Use snack size freezer bags and evenly divide the stew into each bag. Place stew in freezer. When you want the stew, use the microwave to thaw and warm the stew.

If you feed your dog table scraps or dry dog food, you might want to try running some chicken gravy over his food to see if he will eat better.

Chicken Gravy

Ingredients:

1 large chicken breast (boneless and skinless)
4 C. Water
1 C. flour
2 Eggs, beaten

Boil the chicken breast for 30 minutes and allow it to cool. Add flour and whisk it until the lumps are gone. Add the eggs and whisk it on low heat until it thickens. Pulverize in blender and store in refrigerator.

If you want to really spoil your dog rotten, make him some puppy dog egg nog this Christmas.

Puppy Dog Egg Nog

Ingredients:

1 container of plain yogurt (one serving size)
1 jar baby food (chicken, beef, turkey)
1 large can of evaporated milk
1 egg
1 ½ C. water

Combine all ingredients with a whisk in a mixing bowl. Pour mixture into dog's cup. Refrigerate left-over mixture.

Now that your dog has a main course, gravy to drench his stew and doggie egg nog, there is just one part missing, the cornbread.

Doggie Corn Bread

Ingredients:

1 C. cornmeal
1 C. flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 C. milk
1 egg, beaten
½ C. bacon drippings

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Combine all the dry ingredients. Blend the liquids together and combine with the dry ingredients. Beat until mixture is smooth. Pour mixture into a greased, 8 inch square pan. Bake corn bread in oven for 15 to 20 minutes.

Potato Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

2 C. mashed potatoes
2 C. milk
1 C. chicken stock
2 C. chunky peanut butter
1 package yeast
½ C. lukewarm water
3 eggs
3 ½ C. flour
2 C. whole wheat flour
1 C. rye flour
1 C. cornmeal

Begin by mixing the potatoes, milk, chicken stock and peanut butter in a sauce pan. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Pour mixture into bowl and allow it to cool to room temperature. Allow yeast to dissolve in lukewarm water and add to the peanut butter mixture. Add eggs to the mixture and blend everything well. Slowly blend in the flours and corn meal. Knead the dough well and roll it onto a flat surface. Roll the dough out to ¼ inch thick and place it on a greased cookie sheet. Score deeply with a knife into small pieces. Bake the cookies at 300 degrees for 45 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave in oven overnight. In the morning, break it into pieces.
