Keeping Your Puppy Healthy

Keeping your puppy healthy is so important when you have a new puppy in your life. Puppies are likely to get into mischief and do things you'd rather not have them do, but at least when you have a healthy puppy you can be assured your puppy will be able to withstand the life he or she will lead.

There are four main things to do and remember when keeping your puppy healthy. The first main thing you need to do to keep your puppy healthy is to love and care for your puppy. Second is to keep your puppy clean. The third thing you will need to do is to keep your puppy current on all shots that he or she will need. The fourth key to keeping your puppy healthy is to keep your puppy active.

Showing love to your puppy can do a lot for your puppy's health. Your puppy will thrive on knowing that he or she is loved and cared for. The food and water you provide faithfully will show that you are the key to your puppy's happiness. Playing with your puppy and letting him or her into some of your daily routines will show the love you have for your puppy and your puppy will be healthier because of it.

When you are keeping your puppy healthy keeping your puppy clean is essential. There are many skin conditions that a puppy can get if the skin or fur is not kept clean and groomed. Your puppy will need to be able to get the dirt and grime off from time to time. If you have an outside dog, and your dog likes water, let him go for a swim a few times a week. Or get some soap and a tub outside to get him or her nice and clean. Not only do dogs smell better, but they look better and feel better when they are clean. If your dog is an inside dog then bathe the dog in the bathtub or go outside with a tub.

Then there is the choice of getting your dog to a professional for cleaning. The nice thing here is that you can get the dog's hair trimmed at the same time. Dogs will lose their winter coat, but is doesn't always come off before it is hot and summertime. You should also look at your dog's teeth from time to time. Or have your vet look at the teeth. A dog will need healthy teeth to be able to chew their food and stay healthy and strong.

The third thing you will need to do when keeping your puppy healthy is to get the shots that are necessary for your puppy. The only shot required by most states is the rabies shot. You will need to get this at least every two years. Some states require it every year. Check with your vet to be sure when to get the shot. There are also vaccines that will help to keep your puppy healthy. There is the 'Six in One' shot and this will need to be repeated about six times in your puppy's early life. Check with your vet to see if your puppy will need any additional shots.

The fourth and very important key to keeping your puppy healthy is to keep your puppy active. Puppies are naturally active, and they need to run and get exercise a lot in their young life. You can go on walks to the park and then let your puppy run around. You can get out and play with your puppy in the yard. Puppies love games and they love to learn new tricks. Get your puppy out and active and your puppy will be healthy.

Keeping your puppy healthy is now an important part of your life. Start by showing your puppy the love you have for him or her. Then make sure your puppy is kept clean so that skin diseases won't harm your puppy. Keeping your puppy healthy will include keeping your puppy current with the shots he or she will need. And the last thing you will want to do to keep your puppy healthy is to keep your puppy active.
