Modify Unruly Dog Behavior

Do you have a dog that causes a lot of problems? Are you just about at your wit's end trying to deal with your dog? Nobody wants to deal with a problem dog, because it makes having a dog more of a burden than something to be enjoyed! There are a lot of things that you can do to change and modify your dog's behavior. Here are some things that you can do:

1)Take your dog to obedience school: One of the main things that you can do to help modify your dog's behavior is to take them to some type of obedience school or behavior program. There are a lot of different types of obedience schools that are available today – most of these obedience schools focus on some type of reward for good behavior. For example, if your dog follows your commands and is obedient, then you will reward the dog with some type of treat or verbal praise. Obedience schools come in all different shapes and sizes, but you will always want to make sure that you get an obedience school which has small class sizes. With smaller class sizes, the trainer will be able to get to know your dog well and give it more one on one attention.

2)Hire a personal dog trainer: If you really have a dog that is out of control, you might want to consider getting a personal dog trainer. Personal dog trainers are specifically taught and educated to help work with dogs that need to modify their behavior and attitude. Some personal dog trainers come to work with your dog once a week, while other trainers come more often than that. Although this can be a rather expensive option in order to modify your dog's behavior, sometimes it really is the best option. Many people have found that their dog's behavior was able to improve quickly because of the personal interaction it had with a trainer on a regular basis.

3)House training: Are you trying to modify your dog's behavior in regards to where it goes to "do its business? Often you will be able to housetrain your dog and modify its behavior without the help of a trainer. For example, you can use dog training pads to help teach your dog where it is appropriate to urinate and defecate. You can purchase these pads at your local pet store. You should have your dog urinate only on these pads, and over a couple of weeks move these pads towards your door. Over time you will be able to place these training pads outside the door, and your dog will learn to go outside in order to use "the bathroom. In addition, during this training process, it is a good idea to make sure that your dog is aware when it creates an "accident on your floor. If this happens, take your dog over to the "accident and make the dog sniff the area. Then, in a stern voice, tell the dog "no. On the flip side, when your dog goes to the bathroom on the pads or outside, you should verbally praise and reward the dog for its good behavior. By taking the time to house train your dog, you will be able to modify its behavior for the better!

As you can see, there are a couple of things that you can do to change your dog's behavior. So, if you have a really rowdy dog, don't get discouraged! There are a lot of things that you can do to make your dog behave the way that you want it to behave.
