No-Bake Dog Treats

Dog treats are pretty expensive, especially if you are training your dog and you are using treats as a reward or as motivation. Homemade dog treats are catching on quickly with many people and they are actually pretty simple to make. Here are a couple no bake dog treats you can try:

Cheesy Bran Bones

Ingredients:

¼ C. Grated cheddar cheese
¼ C. Grated Swiss cheese
¼ tsp. minced garlic
2 T. canola oil
½ C. Bran Flakes (crumbled)

(Garlic has been found to be deadly to dogs if it is given in large quantities, you may want to leave out the garlic if you have a small dog)

You will combine the cheeses, garlic, and oil. Use saran wrap to shape the mixture into a log that is about 1 inch in diameter and 8 inches long. Roll the log in crumbled Bran Flakes and place on a flat sheet or plate. Place the log in the fridge for one hour. Once it has hardened, cut the rolled log into ½ inch rounds and give it to your dog. This recipe should make about 16 dog treats.

Another no bake dog treat recipe is below:

Microwaveable Doggie Cookies

Ingredients:

2 cups whole wheat flour
3 tbs. oatmeal
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tsp garlic powder
2/3 cups beef or chicken broth

Place the flour, eggs, and broth in a large bowl and mix well. Blend in the oatmeal and garlic powder. Roll the dough into a ball. Using a cutting board sprinkled with flour, roll out the dough until it is about ½ inch thick. Cut the dough with cookie cutters and place the uncooked dough on a microwaveable plate. Place the plate of doggie cookies in the microwave and set it on high for 5-8 minutes. The cookies should harden in the microwave. Once the cookies have hardened, allow them to cool for 5 minutes before serving them to your dog. You can decorate the cookies with non-fat yogurt.
Most dogs love to chew on ice. You can make them flavored ice treats to help cool them on a hot summer day.

Healthy Flavored Ice

Ingredients:

1 can chicken or beef broth
½ can water

Mix the chicken or beef broth with the water. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and place in the freezer. Allow the healthy flavored ice to freeze. Once they are frozen, pop them out of the ice cube trays and serve them to your dog.

Another no bake dog treat is below:

Microwave Dog Treats

¼ C. Dry milk powder
¼ C. Cream of Wheat breakfast cereal

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix well. Spray Pam onto a microwave safe plate. Roll the mixture into small balls and place on plate. Slightly flatten the treat with a fork. Bake the cookies on high for 3 ½ to 4 minutes. Allow treats to cool for 5 minutes. Store the treats in the fridge.

Puppy Dog Egg Nog

Ingredients:

1 container of plain yogurt (one serving size)
1 jar baby food (chicken, beef, turkey)
1 large can of evaporated milk
1 egg
1 ½ C. water

Combine all ingredients with a whisk in a mixing bowl. Pour mixture into dog's cup. Refrigerate left-over mixture.

4 C. Water
