Raising And Training Small Breed Dogs

Raising a well trained small breed dog will produce a pet that will bring years of fun and memories into your family's life. Knowing how to properly train a small dog takes study and practice. There are many resources and services available that can help a dog become trained and able to obey commands. Raising a small dog to know these things and to take care of them physically is the only way to go about sensibly raising an animal.

When a dog is a small puppy, it is impossible to train them properly at this point. You have to wait until they are a bit bigger to start. You want to start teaching them in what would be called the "toddler" stage. They are still a puppy, but they are starting to grow bigger. Before this, however, it is necessary to start making sure that your small dog is eating the right kind of food. Feeding a small dog the wrong kind of food can lead to health problems and even digestive problems that will lead to pain and serious complications later on in the dog's life. Ask dog experts what kind of food your dog should eat and make sure to follow the directions you are given to the best of your ability. Having a healthy dog is the foundation for a life that will be full of activity and fun.

Starting a dog off with the proper training should start with the basic training behaviors. Look at them and use a voice that they will listen to. Look into their eyes so they know that you are talking to them and say the word loudly and clearly that you are associating with the thing they are to do. Training them to go outside is one of the very first tasks to accomplish. One thing that tends to work is to take them outside every so often until they go to the bathroom and then give them a treat when they do. When they go inside of the house, let them know that you are not happy with them and send them outside alone. They will quickly learn that the simple act of going outside is what they are supposed to do. From here on, you can try teaching them other things that are more complicated and maybe even more fun.

Emotional care for a small dog is important also. Taking the time every day to show them that you care about them goes a long way in how a dog feels about itself. A confident dog will want to play and have fun with you and will bring years of satisfaction. Abuse to animals is something that happens far too often and that people sometimes don't even realize they are guilty of. It is against the law to torture dogs of course, but even though it is legal to tie a dog up in the corner of your yard as long as it is fed and watered, it doesn't mean that you aren't being abusive. If you never give your dog the time of day and kick it out of the way every time it wants attention from you, you are hurting your dog in so many ways. Part of owning a dog is taking on the responsibility of being a caring parent, in a sense. These animals feel and know more than people give them credit for. Take time to raise and train your dog in a way that will bring you and the dog into a happy relationship.
