Raising Your Puppy to Be A Great Dog

Having a puppy in your life is so fun and great, but it can also be challenging when you are raising your puppy to be a great dog. You want your puppy to be obedient and well mannered towards others. Raising your puppy to be a great dog will necessitate you working with your puppy and taking the time to care and love your puppy. Puppies are so fun and so cute, but they won't stay cute unless you the master, help them to become a great dog.

You will need to raise the puppy into the dog you want to have. To do this keep in mind what your great dog will be used for. For example, if you are using your dog as a working cattle dog then you will need to raise your puppy around cattle and other animals so your puppy is used to the work area. If you are raising your puppy to be a great show dog then you will need to raise your puppy around people who will look at and touch your puppy. If you are going to have a housedog, house training the puppy is very important while raising your puppy. But if your great dog will be outside for his or her life then house training is not needed.

No matter why you have a puppy and want a great dog, you will need to get the puppy used to whatever your circumstances are. To accomplish this involve your puppy in the environment he or she will be in when they become a great dog. Most puppies will need to be around people to become a great dog. Even if your puppy is going to stay at home most of the time, he or she needs to know some people are friendly.

Some people may want to raise their puppy into a great dog that barks when someone comes, as kind of a watchdog. Then there are some that may like a small bark of acknowledgement from their dog and so raising your puppy to not bark constantly will take some training. Start out when the puppy is young and don't tolerate constant barking if you don't want your puppy to grow up barking constantly at everything. Try to understand barking is how a puppy will communicate. They bark for reasons and knowing why they are barking will help you as the master to know when to not allow the barking to continue.

Raising your puppy to be a great dog will also include teaching your puppy what can be chewed on. Raise your puppy to know there are some chew toys that he or she can chew on. But your shoes are not to be chewed on. To do this once again start young in your puppy's life, like around four to six months, and replace the non-chewable item with a chewable item. Reprimand the puppy while taking away the non-chewable item and the praise the puppy when he or she has taken the chewable item. This can help you have a great dog when your puppy is grown up.

Also you may want to raise your puppy to learn to not jump up on people, or your kids, or you. One way to stop this bad habit is to step on the back paws of the puppy when he or she jumps up. Don't step too hard and don't use your hand to get the dog down. A puppy jumping up may not seem too bad, but when the puppy grows up and is a big and great dog, jumping up may knock over some people. If you can, before the puppy gets his or her paws on you when they try to jump up, turn your body sideways and don't let the paws get on you.

If you are raising your puppy to be a great dog you will need to know what and where the puppy will spend most of his or her life. It is a safe bet though to get the puppy used to people, especially those that you will have coming and going in your life. Teach your puppy to not jump up and to not chew on non-chewable items and your puppy can be a great dog.
