However, you first should realize that the dog probably doesn't understand what you are trying to have him do. This might not be a problem of willful disobedience on your dog's part, but rather a miscommunication between you and your dog. Secondly, you should never hit an animal. Animal cruelty is not only morally wrong, but there are also laws which protect animals from cruel behavior. If you feel like hitting or hurting your dog in any way during the training process, you should take a break. Take some time away from the animal and cool down. If you have lots of problems controlling your anger while you are training your dog, then you should have someone else train your dog instead.
Repetition is the key: When you are training your dog to do anything, you will need to make sure that you repeat things over and over. Just like humans learn from repetition, dogs are the same way! For example, when you are teaching your dog "to sit," you will constantly need to push down the rump of your dog to the floor, while saying the command "SIT." In addition, you will constantly need to be pulling your dog back to your side and say "HEEL" when you are trying to teach them to walk beside you. It is likely that you will need to exercise a lot of patience while you repeat steps over and over with your dog. However, your hard work will eventually reap results.
