Tips for Raising A Puppy

Getting a new puppy can be so fun and exciting. It can also be frustrating and maddening. Getting some tips on raising a puppy can be very helpful and most beneficial to your sanity. Puppies tend to chew on every thing and jump up on most people. They will need to know what is good for chewing and jumping and what is not. They also need to train where it is appropriate to make their messes. There is a great deal that the new owner of a puppy will need to do for the puppy. Here are a few tips that may help in raising a puppy.

To begin with, your puppy needs to know you are the one who is master and will ensure your puppy's happiness. Second tip for raising a puppy is to enforce some obedience. This will include not chewing on everything and not jumping on everyone.

Puppies need guidance just like everyone else. They will need more guidance than you may think. You will need to show your puppy that you are the one who makes the puppy happy. This means you feed the puppy, you give the puppy a safe place to sleep and get out of the elements. You teach the puppy what he or she needs to know to be liked by others.

A puppy will have a very short attention span. They like to wiggle and chew and play games. Try to get your puppy to know that you love him or her and that you are the one who ensures food is there for the eating. Make a designated place for eating and sleeping for your puppy. Whether this is in the house or outside, your puppy will need some stability when it comes to eating and sleeping.

Puppies are still puppies and they will get scared from time to time. They will need to have a place they feel safe so they can run to it and feel safe. Outside it may be a doghouse in the yard. Inside, it may be a crate in the kitchen. Make the puppy's home warm and give them something to get cozy with, especially in the cold months.

Raising a puppy includes teaching them some obedience. This obedience will include what to chew on and what to jump on. Puppies chew, this is normal. But puppies can learn to chew on chew toys and not your nice new shoes. You will need to start out early in teaching your puppy to not chew on the couch. Even if your puppy is outside you will need to teach them to not chew up the trampoline.

While raising your puppy, begin to teach the puppy not to chew on everything, by puppy proofing your house or yard. This means try to not leave things lying around. Then when you see your puppy get a hold of something not for them to chew on, get their attention with a loud noise and then substitute the bad item with a chew toy for the puppy. Give the puppy praise when he or she takes the chew toy and not your shoe.

Puppies want to be involved with what is going on around them. They will jump up to get a closer look. Most people do not like a puppy and especially a dog jumping up on them. What a puppy learns while being raised is what he or she will do when they are adult dogs. So you will need to teach your puppy that it is not appropriate to jump up on people. The guests you have come over will appreciate it.

It goes without saying that raising a puppy means trying not to step in puppy pooh. This can be one of the most frustrating things to do while raising a puppy. If puppies will be inside or outside, get them used to going where it is out of the way and appropriate. There are many different ways to try this, some have suggested using the crate in the house as a training tool.

Tips for raising a puppy could go on and on. But the main thing to remember is to teach your puppy that you are the one who makes them happy. Then remember to discipline your puppy. Don't expect that your puppy will figure out not to chew or jump up later in life. Start now and make your puppy one you'll want to enjoy for a long time.
