What Are The Best Hypoallergenic Dog Breeds?

If you are a lover of dogs, but you suffer from allergies, you may feel like you'll never be able to have a dog of your own. However, cheer up – there are hypoallergenic dogs that you can get. Usually dog allergies are connected to the dander of the dog. Many people think that it actually is dog fur which causes the allergy, but this is incorrect. It really is the dander that causes people to be allergic.

There are a lot of hypoallergenic dog breeds which dog lovers can choose from. Here are some of the best hypoallergenic dog breeds that are out there:

Kerry Blue Terrier – These spirited dogs make really good pets, but you should be aware that they are often spirited and strong willed. Usually these dogs are very affectionate and gentle with their owners and children, but they are often very mean towards other dogs. If you are considering bringing this dog into your home as a companion for another dog, then you might want to reconsider. Kerry Blue Terriers are great for hypoallergenic reasons, but they do not always do well with other animals in the house.

Portuguese Water Dog – These curly haired dogs are known to be really good hypoallergenic pets, particularly because they are such intelligent dogs! They usually are comfortable with staying close to their owners, so they make really good companions. However, you should also be aware that these dogs need to have entertainment and variety in their life – if a Portuguese Water Dog gets bored, then it often begins to be a little destructive. Remember, these dogs are trained to be working dogs, so you need to make sure that they constantly have "something to do."

Mexican Hairless Dog – This dog is often a really good pet for people with allergies, because the dog is hairless except for a little tuft that it has on top of its head. However, you should be aware that this dog requires a little bit more attention and care – you will need to apply sunscreen to your dog if it is going to be outside in the sun for a long period of time. In addition, you probably need to apply moisturizer constantly in order to make sure that your cute little dog does not dry out.

Bichon Frise – These cute little white balls of fur are very playful and affectionate. If you have children with allergies to dogs, then the Bichon Frise might be a really good option for you, because these dogs are also really patient with children. These dogs are also known to have a generally cheerful attitude, which make them a fun pet to have around the house.

Old English Sheep Dogs – These are a really fun option for pet owners, but if you have dog allergies, you will need to make sure that you take home an Old English Sheep Dog that is full grown. Puppies are really cute, but Old English Sheep Dog puppies do not produce a lot of dander. You really can't find out if you are going to be allergic to an Old English Sheep Dog until they are fully grown. However, if you aren't allergic to one of these dogs, then you really should consider it. Old English Sheep Dogs are great pets, and they have been known to get along well with children.

Even though these are some of the best hypoallergenic dog breeds, you still will want to spend time with the dog you are considering, just to make sure that you don't have an allergic reaction. If you are friends with the people that are selling the dog, then you should ask if you can take the dog home for a day or two. In addition, when deciding on a hypoallergenic pet, you will want to take the personality of the dog into consideration. You will also want to make sure that you pick a dog that will get along well with you and or your children.
