What You Need To Know About Large Breed Dogs

Large dogs are creatures that have emotions and can even display tempers and even true concern for the safety of their owners. Because of this love that forms so naturally for them, it should be important for you to realize your responsibilities for these animals. Before an animal can ever be brought into your home, you need to know a little bit about dog breeds. Thousands of large dogs are put to sleep every year because owners are irresponsible and even abusive to the point that the dogs run away and are put into shelters. Most of the time, they never leave these shelters. In order to help solve this problem, make it a priority to know what you need to do to make the life of this dog the most healthy and happy one for you and the dog.

One thing to take into consideration when researching big dogs is how often the dog needs to be cleaned. Large dogs come in all shapes and hair lengths. Some dogs have really thin, long, short, thick hair that requires different amounts of attention. Washing a dog is important so that it doesn't collect fleas, ticks, and other insects that will thrive on a dirty dog. It is also a hard job to do depending on what kind of hair your dog has. Keeping a dog clipped and clean will make not only your time with the dog more pleasant, but will actually help the dog feel better about itself and that you care about it.

Large dogs can be trained easily at a young age. Teaching them to sit, stay, settle down, and to do their business outside will save you many headaches as the years go by. They are intelligent animals that are perfectly capable of understanding commands if they are given the opportunity to learn and make mistakes. People who abuse their pets in the name of "training them or "disciplining them will actually destroy the trust that a good owner should have with their pet. If they do not feel safe around you or other people, they will never become the kind of pet that you would want to have.

Large dogs also need to have time to play and run around. Taking them for daily walks is one of many ways to help keep a dog healthy. Playing frisbee, going swimming, and playing fetch are several other fun ways you can spend time with your dog and still give them exercise. A big part of a dog's health is stimulation from relationships. If a dog can feel that it is cared about and that it is safe when it is with you, it will positively influence its health not only in an emotional way, but can also greatly influence the physical well being also. Although dogs aren't the same as humans, there needs to be a level of respect for an animal that is capable of so many things. Besides being fun pets to have around the house, they also can become loyal protectors and watchmen for your household. I can guarantee if a burglar sees that there are large dogs living in the yard, they will think a little harder before breaking into your home.

Overall, large dogs are great animals to have as pets. They require a lot of attention just like any living thing does and should go into a home that is ready to provide those things that will accomplish that. Knowing about your dog and its breed will greatly help you prepare for the road ahead as they become a part of your household.
